Hello everyone,
For the first Pandora MK0 units we are looking for devs only. We especially want linux hackers or driver writers.
The aim of these first units is to make a really nice firmware for the first casual users and of course to find bugs.
We will make a loss on these units so we will only make as many of these as we need.
You will get full support and if your unit fails or there turns out to be a fault in the MK0 PCBs you will get a complete replacement Pandora. You will not get a substandard system in any way, we will make sure we take care of you.
You get to be some of the first people work with the cutting edge OMAP3 and be part of a unique project.
If you fancy it please email me with details of your plans and previous work via a pm or email via the board.
Thanks,
Craig

There is amassing a few shelves’ worth of tatty Dreamcast and Neo-Geo Pocket games and calling yourself a serious collector, and there is handing over the price of a small car for a single cartridge. James Baker falls into the latter camp, having recently spent $15,000 [about £7,563] securing one of the 26 gold-colored NES carts originally manufactured for the Nintendo World Championships in 1990. We caught up with him to find out what it’s like to be part of an elite club.
So, why would you pay $15,000 for a videogame?
Well, I don’t really look at it as purely a videogame; it’s more like the Honus Wagner of videogame collecting – or like Action Comics number one. There are 50-60 Honus Wagner cards out there and only 12 accounted NWC gold carts accounted for, so comparatively it’s pretty cheap! But, yeah, it’s pretty crazy that I spent that much on a videogame, regardless of rarity.
Will you actually play the cart?
Well, when I first got it we fired it up at the office and played it for a while – and I didn’t even need to blow on the end of it to get it to work. But I have a friend who’s an architect and eventually we’re going to collaborate on building a really cool installation to put it into.
How does the NWC cart compare to other rarities in your possession?
It’s clearly the showpiece of the collection. I have some favorites, like the Nintendo 64DD, which is probably going to remain my favourite item. I also have a NES Deluxe Edition that predates when Nintendo decided to split the bundles. I also have a mint Atari Pong system, complete with the batteries included, and somehow they haven’t corroded yet. But in terms of price and rarity, this is by far the key piece.
How long have you been looking for it?
I’ve been looking for a few years, but I wasn’t serious about getting it until recently. I’ve avoided collecting carts for a while – I always looked at them as a slippery slope, since there are just so many collectible carts out there to get. When I started, I concentrated on systems – I’m up to 130 now. But I think that this game really validates the collection as one of the best out there.
What have your friends’ reactions been like?
The guys at the office were for it. I don’t think I’m going to be bragging to any of my non-videogame geek friends that I have it, though. Like I said, when it came in we played it immediately. The ones that aren’t into games, well, either I don’t tell them or when I tell them they think I’m nuts. But I don’t blame them.
How much have you spent on collecting?
On collecting in general? I don’t even want to hazard a guess. I was a relatively hardcore Star Wars collector for years, and I collected comics well into college. But when I started collecting games about five years ago I was astounded at how cheap they all were. It all started when I found a mint Famicom on eBay for $10. I always wanted a Famicom and a Super Famicom when I was growing up and seeing them in game magazines, so when I was able to find these mint, boxed classics my OCD kicked in and I went nuts. But the total cost of shipping and handling on my collection probably cost me more than the systems themselves. The most I would pay for something? Well, I think I’m tapped out for a while.
What’s next on your list?
There are a few things I’m still hunting for, like a reasonably priced Adventure Vision and an Interton VC4000. But I’d really like to track down a set of original Nintendo Hanafuda cards.

ICS Control is a GUI front-end for Internet Connection Sharing, a component of Microsoft Windows Mobile. It can be configured to do a variety of things including sharing your cellular internet connection over an adhoc WiFi network.
Requirements: .NET Compact Framework 2.0 and Windows Mobile 5 or later with the IPNAT driver included (most WM6 builds have this built-in). The "Internet Sharing" application that some phones have is not required, but IPNAT is.
Changes:
- Added host names from DHCP leases to DMZ and InternalHost dropdown lists.

Dublin based Developer BitRabbit has released v2.0 of RabbitFactory, their middleware for PDA and smartphone game developers. Included are a number of C++ API's that will allow the same title to be easily ported over a variety of devices, including Palm OS, Windows Mobile and Symbian OS; alongside a universal C++, desktop based, emulator. RabbitFactory will power the upcoming multi-platform release of Platypus from Astraware.
BitRabbit announce RabbitFactory middleware version 2.0
Dublin, Ireland - April 17th 2008 - BitRabbit is proud to announce the availability of version 2.0 of its RabbitFactory middleware for all native smartphone and PDA platforms. The RabbitFactory is a full-featured, cross-platform, highly-optimized set of C++ APIs which provide a complete abstraction of native mobile platforms, offering extremely fast development and deployment processes
Smartphones, and touch based devices in particular, have recently enjoyed a dynamic growth, with surveys showing that users play and spend more on mobile games than feature phone users. The benefits of native mobile games are huge, providing smartphone users with better gameplay and console quality gaming. However, the number of different platforms to support, coupled with the inherent complexity of developing native applications can quickly become major obstacles to this lucrative market. The RabbitFactory has been designed from the ground up to eliminate all these issues.
Building on almost five years of native development experience, the RabbitFactory already powers several native games with global distribution. As the RabbitFactory uses unique source code and assets, and produces a single SKU per platform, the fragmentation is greatly reduced. It provides desktop development tools, a reduced set of friendly C++ APIs dedicated to game development and a universal emulator so C++ developers with no previous knowledge of embedded systems can quickly and easily develop games on a PC. Deployment on devices is done in a matter of minutes.
The RabbitFactory 2.0 powers the latest Astraware published game, Platypus, a cult classic on PC, later ported to PSP. Platypus is a high octane ‘shoot’em up’, animating lots of parallax backgrounds and huge sprites, combined with simultaneous music and sound effects. It’s the perfect example of what the RabbitFactory can handle. In the porting process done by BitRabbit, all the features from the original PC game can be integrated in all mobile versions. Astraware’s version is a perfect replica of the desktop game previously enjoyed by so many. "We are extremely proud to have been chosen by Astraware to port such an outstanding game like Platypus. Astraware has a stellar reputation in the smartphone and PDA gaming market, especially when it comes to quality and customer satisfaction. It’s a testament to how robust and efficient our development tools have grown over the years", said Michael El Baki, CEO of Bitrabbit.
"BitRabbit’s engine combines speed for an excellent framerate, and flexibility to support multiple platforms - essential for fast-paced games on a wide range of mobile devices." added Howard Tomlinson, co-founder and CEO of Astraware.
The RabbitFactory will appeal to mobile game developers and publishers who want to extend quickly into the smartphone market, as well as PC independent developers who want to leverage their existing C++ code and competences on mobile platforms.

EvilDragon one of the creators of the OpenPandora Project has posted a new piccie of the console in action, just so you can get a better idea of the size of the console, for purists the console is a little bigger than the DS Lite but smaller than the original.

News from Mollusk
Quick news !
I know the latest releases have had some slight VGA bugs (menu bar in the middle, etc...), and I can't reproduce the bug on emulator so it has been kind of a pain for me to test... Anyways, here's a version I'd like to submit : http://www.xflib.net/Files/BlackFlipVGA.zip
Changed a few lines of code in XFlib for managing fullscreen, I really hope this fixes it, but as I can't test myself... Can't be sure ^^ Thanks for testing (anyone who has the bug in SkinzSudoku/BlackFlip/PocketGravity) and tell me if it's better

Tinnus has posted some screens of the WIP PC version GPU of psx4all which should look the same as this on Pandora (if it hasnt already been ported )
Didn't think anyone wanted to see what's psx4pandora going to look like...
(edit: these shots are from the WIP PC version GPU of psx4all which is being coded in OpenGL ES 2.0, the very same code and looks that will migrate to the Pandora once it's available. So as far as looks are concerned, psx4pandora will look like this. Sorry for any confusion.)
P.S.: It will actually look better than that since gourad shading is currently buggy and disabled in these shots.

Hi everyone !
I'm requesting a bit of help : I'm finishing up the latest release of Skinz Sudoku Pro (Freeware will come back few days later, I have some things to adjust first ^^), version 1.30, and need beta-testers now...
The main features to test in the version :
- Better speed on slow devices and VGA
- Bugfixes (hints, awards, etc...)
- Custom sudokus (enter sudokus from a newspaper and play it later on...)
- New menu (nothing major, just to allow more stuff like custom sudokus ^^)
- Optimized ram use some more, smaller exe
The save format has been updated to allow custom sudokus. Because of this, people using very old saves may have their saves corrupted. To limit the damage, Skinz Sudoku will automatically create a backup of old saves. If you have problems, please send me that backup and I'll try to fix it...
Devices I'm looking for to test on (1 of each if possible) :
- WM2003SE, WM5, and WM6 240x320 PocketPCs
- 480x640 PocketPC
- Devices having the slow display driver problems (HTC TyTN II, HTC Touch Dual, etc...)
- 240x320 Smartphones
If you have one (or more ^^) devices corresponding to my needs, please PM me your email and the device you have (name + OS + screen size), I'll send you a test copy as soon as possible.
Thanks to everyone !!!
(of course, any help with feedback will get you a free copy once the final version is released )

That's crazy talk! While all of your friends could be enjoying Contra 4 on the DS or SOCOM on the PSP, you can show off this solar-powered unit that can handle all sorts of NES classics.
Sure, it treads a little carefully on the legal front, but the MediaStreet eMotion PMP comes preinstalled with both NES and Sega Genesis emulators.
What this means is that you have full access to such classics as Ecco the Dolphin, Dr. Mario, and yes, even Excitebike. In addition to the emulators, this PMP also gets equipped with a 3-inch color display, 2GB of internal memory, video support, audio playback, photo viewer, SD memory expansion, and an integrated speaker. It's also got a Game Gear-esque form factor.
But the real kicker, in case you haven't noticed, is that this thing is solar powered, meaning that you will never need to find a power outlet ever again. Price has been set at $169.

The Homebrew scene is bigger now than its ever been, when i first got really into homebrew we just had the Dreamcast and Gameboy Scenes but now we have homebrew scenes for PSP, Nintendo DS, GP2X, Xbox, Wii, PS3, PS2, Dreamcast, GBA, Sega Saturn, GP32, Gizmondo and many others.
Homebrew is so big now that thousands of sites are posting news on it and even the major sites such as Slashdot, Digg, Engadget and even BBC News have posted interviews and articles about homebrew.
A few years ago saw the release of the GP2X a linux based console that was to revolutionize the homebrew scene, it was and is a good console but the build quality of the first units was not so good and the problems of firmware updates bricking the console didnt help either not to mention the crap battery life. Also problems with the company making the console didnt help either, however the F200 Version of the GP2X addressed some of the problems and gave a touchscreen option which is selling well.
The Pandora Console
Last year i was told of a new project to bring a console that would be as powerful as the PSP and maybe even have Nintendo DS Emulation on it, a big boast if ever there was one.
That project was given the name Pandora and a few months ago it transpired that it would look like a Nintendo DS in shape with a keyboard on, the first version was white and didnt impress but a new photo of the design has been released and it looks much better in black.
Heres the photo:
Heres the specs:
ARM® Cortex™-A8 CPU running Linux
800x480 4.3" 16.7 million colours touchscreen LCD
OpenGL 2.0 compliant 3D hardware
Wifi 802.11b/g
Dual SDHC card slots
Dual Analogue and Digital gaming controls
43 button QWERTY and numeric keypad
TV output
High Speed USB Host
Heres some more details about the console:
When and where can I buy it?
Sometime around April/May 2008 via UK, USA, Germany and Turkey.
How much will it cost?
Around £199 (inc VAT), $330, Euro212 (Ex.VAT).
What is the device designed for?
It is designed as an ultra portable open source computer with gaming controls.
Why such a radical design?
The design is actually a simple clamshell which gives maximum protection and maximum control layout, it is around the same size as a DS.
From the photograph you can see it borrows a lot from the Nintendo DS with the clam style and body shape but improves on it with the dual SD card slots.
The screen is a rather big 800x480 which may be problematic for some emulators, the Wifi part should be awesome for playing emulators and games against people worldwide.
The qwerty keyboard, tv out and USB mean you have a portable console that could double as a mini laptop.
Is Pandora the Future of Homebrew?
Personally i hope that Pandora will be a major success, lets hope the build quality is professional and that battery life is comparable with the likes of the Nintendo DS.
Its unlikely the console will ever be a console that major commercial games will be released on but it could be a great bed for indie developers looking to impress the likes of EA and the many major companies out there.
Thats my feelings but what do you think about the design and if it will be a success, will it challenge the likes of the PSP and Nintendo DS who have very strong Homebrew scenes.
