So far this month the main news is that we have added the most requested feature which was not in the MK0 spec - Bluetooth.
This should mean accessing the internet on the Pandora via your phone is a whole lot easier now.
We will do a blog post with more detail on this and details of the preordering process soon.

I wonder if they were running odds on how long it would take for the "leak" to hit these boards. laugh.gif
eight days smile.gif
The information on my website is inaccurate......
the LED is actually orange just like the wifi LED. wink.gif Blue made the point better and didn't stand out as much so maybe that is why it took longer to find!
$320 --> $330 wasn't a cost increase, it was an update on the dollar from the first time someone converted it, to what it is now (or more recently)
BT was added for a few reasons
1. We got a good deal, but it did add a tiny bit of cost
2. OMAP host port only supports USB 2.0 HS mode (480Mb/s) which means all the bluetooth dongles I could find that had detailed specifications wouldn't work without going through a hub (which kinda kills that ultra portable stuff). It seems like most (all?) BT dongles are USB 2.0 FS mode (12Mb/s) because the more expensive electronics just aren't needed
3. See reason 2 for some unhappy customers forcing us to make a mk2 with BT internally and this would have cost more in the long run with a new PCB revision, changes to production line and changes to bill of materials.
4. Making competing devices look that much less interesting!

from http://www.openpandora.org/blog.php
The hardware itself is shaping up to be very stable so far. A new board revision is planned for the near future and has a couple bug fixes, numerous clean ups to remove the extra parts I placed for testing, addition of the final wifi module and changes to final connectors and headers (smaller JTAG, different expansion connector, AV connector). Product launch is likely to be delayed for the reason explained below and this gives us even more time to make sure absolutely everything is perfectly functional.
Anyone who has been following the Beagleboard progress will know that the USB phy chip has issues and is likely going to need a new rev in silicon. Any TI customer using the OMAP chip for its built in host capabilities is waiting for a solution because the OMAP uses a non-standard clocking scheme to drive the phy that only one or two companies is trying to support at this time. As usual these parts are covered by NDA for a while so I can't say too much more than is public with the Beagle.
The bad news is more of a delay, the good news is that early adopters (first 3000 and even the next batch of 3000) should feel very confident that their Pandoras work just as well as systems made a year from now since we have more time to test them. Craig has also just pointed out that if it is defective from manufacture, it will be fixed under warranty.

hlide a member of DCEmu and a coder at PS2Dev and one of the icons of PSP Development posted this exciting bit of info:
I'm also planning to make a PSP emulator for PC and maybe Pandora.
I rewrote from scratch a R3000 dynarec (c++) for PSP and ARM (zodttd uses my very old recompiler/generator I rewrote for his psx4gp2x/psx4iphone). Zodttd were supposed to work with me to bring yapse4all in life but he seems to be very busy with all the other ports he makes.
It wouldn't be difficult to make a PSP dynarec for PC as well : I just need to write the appropriate generator.
I intend to reuse my new dynarec and to extend it to a PSP dynarec (CPU/FPU/VFPU) to make a PSP emulator. But it must be fast and don't need to deal with low emulation of hardware unlike PSX.
I think HLE is the best strategy to emulate PSP because it would be faster and hardware emulation is beyond question due to the lack of documentation about hardware.
But HLE is probably hell to build since we need to reverse any kernel modules to emulate functions accurately.
Lets hope this comes to reality PSP emu for Pandora now thats a mindblower (although it will most likely be more of a tech demo)

From the coder himself:
For the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch I am:
Working on adding sound to snes4iphone.
Finishing up temper4iphone for a release. (Thanks for the support everyone!)
Considering continuing iPhoneDoom.
Hoping to work out details on porting Hedgewars, a Worms-like game.
For the upcoming next-gen homebrew gaming handheld, Pandora I am:
Working on improving psx4all further and trying to get OpenGL ES 2.0 implemented to use Tinnus' work on the OpenGL ES GPU.
Posting videos of psx4pandora as things progress.
Taking a look at N64 emulation on the Pandora. More news as it develops.

If you are using a smartphone running on Windows Mobile 6.1, this small utility might be useful for you. It allows you to switch on/off and change the display order of the sliding panels on any CHome homescreens. It could also be used to customize all custom panels based on CWelcomeCenter and Settings plugin.
Changes:
Fixed a bug with Softkey 2 URL (it didn't keep its value after saving)
Temporarily removed "Visible" check box on Customize window.
Saving the new settings will automatically update the homescreen without rebooting the phone.

Caisses is one of the most download games here, and people have requested some features for a while. I had been too lazy to add them, but decided to do it now !
So here comes version 1.2 with a few nice things :
- Added 10 000 levels of undo/redo !! Hope that'll be enough
- Reworked the interface a little to have the undo/redo buttons fit on the screen
- Bigger exit button
- Fixed levels 104 and 130
- Code cleaning
- Raster can now be turned off !
- Now saves menu level !
- Added version number in case I update again someday ^^
I really hope you'll like it ! If you see anything fishy (I didn't spend too much time testing), feel free to tell me !
This version works on both PocketPC and Smartphones

Yet another release !
I've reworked the language code in BlackFlip to make adding languages even easier. An italian translation has been added, and a spanish one will come soon !
Also added a first shot at 240x240 screen resolution. It's not perfect, ie it's basically moving the screen around to have everything playable. The ingame buttons are crappy because they need to be reworked (the puzzle takes up way too much space :/)
Complete changelog :
- Fixed page number bug in menu
- Improved translation system
- 400 new puzzles (resynched the database with blackflip.org)
- Added Italian translation (thanks to Scognito !)
- Fixed some text alignments
- Added 240x240 screen support, but still crappy (more like a quick hack than a real resolution support, but everything is 100% playable)
Still looking for someone for the german translation !!!

Zodttd posted this update about his Pandora and Iphone projects:
What's up with ZodTTD you ask?
I am preparing to goto a friends wedding on May 13th.
I have been working very hard on psx4all and made a lot of progress in terms of compatibility. Performance has increased as well.
I've been placing my project's source code on a public git repository which will also allow for more proper bug reporting, and each project will have a wiki!
The Pandora videos I've made on YouTube and ZodTTD Video have been getting more popular. The psx4pandora project is running at amazing speeds on this upcoming gaming handheld.
I still need to speak to Exophase about temper4iphone, and integrate the updates into it before releasing. Exophase is the author of Temper. This project emulates the NEC TurboGraphix 16 and Turbo Duo (also known as the PC-Engine and PC-CD). A big thanks to those who have created controller skins for the temper4iphone project! It's a huge help!

over at youtube MWeston posted a video of the mk0 Pandora Case compard to NDS lite
Size comparison of the Pandora handheld versus the NDS lite. Closed up, there isn't too much size difference other than thickness, but open, that beautiful 4.3" display towers over the DS. smile.gif

over at gp32x zodttd posted this
I posted some quick low quality videos of psx4pandora running games such as Final Fantasy 7, Wipeout 1, and Einhander at 600MHz:
Video Via Comments
http://ca.youtube.com/user/zodttd
More videos with higher quality (and hopefully sound too!) are on their way soon. But I figured just in case I can't get the new video cam to work tommorow, at least this is something. smile.gif
I should make some videos of things running at 900MHz or so too. More to do...I better get back to work smile.gif

Updated Pocket PC game from Mollusk
Here's a new release of BlackFlip !
It's not really a major release, but is still a step up, and you could see it as a quick release before the next big update. The biggest improvement in this release is that I've added french support ! (technically, it could include other languages if people feel like translating ! Just send me a quick PM and I'll set together a simple text file to translate...).
Other stuff I changed : better random puzzles (sorted by difficulty) and stats page added ! (doesn't show much, but it's a start)
Complete changelog :
- Added French translation !! (more to come if people participate )
- Bigger back to menu button on puzzle selection screen
- Faster boot up time
- Grade now ranges from 0 stars to 5 instead of 1 to 5...
- Added "Play Next" button !
- Change LOSER to YOU LOSE
- Quick and crappy stats page (sorry, I got lazy again !)
- Added menu state saving
- Slightly faster end game animation
- New better random puzzle picker (with level difficulty !)
Oh, and as I set the stars to range from 0 to 5 now (instead of 1 to 5), don't be surprises if some of the puzzles you played change 'difficulty'. It doesn't change any order or anything, it's just that the old values were a bit off

Prophet (ex newsposter on many emulation sites) posted a rather interesting post for newcomers to the Pandora and should be interesting to what can be overcomed in the future.
As more people around the world discover the Pandora, we're likely to get many requests for emulators. This topic is designed to clarify what sort of emulators are likely to work very well on Pandora, what sort probably won't, and what *might* happen (depending on many variables).
Defining terms: By "work well" I mean full speed emulation with full sound and very little if any frame skipping at all. By "work decently" I mean reasonably playable but possibly without sound and/or with some frame skipping. These are all speculative! By "NOT work well" I mean too slow or incomplete to be considered truly playable. Again, this is speculative!
NOTE: Just because you see a system on this list DOES NOT mean it will definitely have an emulator on the Pandora. DO NOT EXPECT there to be emulators for everything on this list, even if it's in the "should work well" group. The systems in this list are only there as a guide.
THIS IS NOT A LIST OF EMULATORS BEING WORKED ON! EVERYTHING HERE SHOULD BE REGARDED AS SPECULATION TO SOME DEGREE!
Emulators that could work well on Pandora:
8bit consoles and computers including (but not limited to)
NES/GB
SMS/GG
Atari 2600/5200/7800
Colecovision
Intellivision
Vectrex
Atari 800/XL
Commodore 64
Spectrum
Arcade games from the 70's and 80's (i.e. MAME etc.)
+ various other systems from that era
16bit consoles and computers including (but not limited to):
SNES
Gameboy Color
Genesis/Sega CD
Turbografx-16/PC-Engine/CD-ROM (technically an 8bit system but eh...)
Amiga
Atari ST
Atari Lynx
X68000 (Japanese computer with arcade quality graphics)
286 (and possibly 386) PC's via DOSbox
NeoGeo AES/MVS
NeoGeo Pocket (it actually has a 16bit CPU)
Arcade games from late 80's - 90's (i.e. CPS1/2, FBA, MAME etc.)
32bit consoles and computers including (but not limited to):
Playstation (PSX/PS1)
Gameboy Advance
Arcade games (some MAME games using 32bit CPU's i.e. PSX based)
Emulators that MIGHT work decently on Pandora (these are all speculative!):
Nintendo 64
Sega 32X
Atari Jaguar ("bit" level is arguable, but it's a 32bit era sysyem)
3DO
Emulators that will NOT work well on Pandora (these are all speculative!):
Nintendo DS (might eventually move into the "work decently" tier, time will tell.)
Sega Saturn (altho 32bit, it's very messy hardware to emulate)
Playstation 2
XBox
Gamecube
PSP
486 based PC's and higher
Current mainstream consoles (Wii, PS3, 360 etc.)
These lists are preliminary and speculative. But hopefully they give some idea of what will likely be possible or not. As always in emulation, you never know what some brilliant dev will do in the future, but it's good to have a sense of proportion. Remember, Pandora is very powerful (easily surpassing all current handheld game devices) but it's not a miracle machine.
Any mistakes or suggestions for additions/changes, please post below!
And remember:
THIS LIST IS SPECULATIVE - do NOT expect to see emulators for every system in the list!

DjWillis gave a nice hint today that ScummVM is already working on Pandora, the touchscreen and keyboard should make the Pandora Port the Ultimate Version on Consoles.
I have had a basic version up and running on the OMAP3 for some time and there will be a Pandora optemised official version (rather then just a simple ARM cross compile) in time for release (I hope, depends on my own free time).
things are looking good for emulation on pandora

Zodttd has acquired a developers version of the Pandora and posted this on his blog:
Today I am working with a very cool upcoming gaming handheld. It will run all the emulators you see here and much much more. It should be capable of fullspeed Sony Playstation 1, with the ability to beat out the PSP in performance of emulators such as N64. It's a beast, and best of all it's 100% homebrew friendly. No jailbreaking needed, no unlocking, no fuss.
Here's its specs:
ARM® Cortex™-A8 600Mhz+ CPU running Linux
430-MHz TMS320C64x+™ DSP Core
PowerVR SGX OpenGL 2.0 ES compliant 3D hardware
800x480 4.3" 16.7 million colours touchscreen LCD
Wifi 802.11b/g & High Speed USB Host
Dual SDHC card slots & SVideo TV output
Dual Analogue and Digital gaming controls
43 button QWERTY and numeric keypad
Around 10+ Hours battery life
Yes, that means a bigger and better screen, wifi, faster video chipset, faster processor, upgradable storage, and analog and digital controls with a full keyboard. The possibilities are endless.
With this beast is in my hands, good things are to come. More information as things develop.
