Little Red Riding Hood looking over at her grandmother's latest install of ScummVM, noting the update to version 1.5.0 and asked "My what a lot of games you now support". "All the better to entertain you with my dear!" responded the curiously grinning relative.
We all love to feast on the most sumptuous of gaming titles and our latest release will fulfil your craving for even more classic point and click adventures.
Version 1.5.0 adds support for Once Upon A Time: Little Red Riding Hood and the following titles:
- Backyard Baseball 2003
- Blue Force
- Darby the Dragon
- Dreamweb
- Geisha
- Gregory and the Hot Air Balloon
- Magic Tales: Liam Finds a Story
- Sleeping Cub's Test of Courage
- Soltys
- The Princess and the Crab
As always, there are many more new features; you can find the full list in our release notes and the release itself on our downloads page.
Enjoy and hopefully you won't find the big bad wolf who is sure to give you a byte!
ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!
ScummVM supports many adventure games, including LucasArts SCUMM games (such as Monkey Island 1-3, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max, ...), many of Sierra's AGI and SCI games (such as King's Quest 1-6, Space Quest 1-5, ...), Discworld 1 and 2, Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2, Beneath A Steel Sky, Lure of the Temptress, Broken Sword 1 and 2, Flight of the Amazon Queen, Gobliiins 1-3, The Legend of Kyrandia 1-3, many of Humongous Entertainment's children's SCUMM games (including Freddi Fish and Putt Putt games) and many more.
For a list of changes since the previous version, read the release notes.
1.4.0 is also apt-get'able from Debian unstable (sid).

Some of you might've realized that I'm currently pretty busy... waiting for eMail replies from me, not much official news here, etc.
Well, I'm working on all of that. My shop will soon receive an update where RMAs and contact stuff is handled through a ticket system - which helps a lot, as my helpers can then also reply to questions and issues, so this should speed things up.
I've also improved the RMA system so I can check immediately what units I got here and what the status is. You'll also receive a mail when your unit arrives here.
Well, that's just some background information on what I'm working on right now... let's go to the news you've been waiting for:
The 1GHz Pandora Test run!
Global Components grabbed the DM3730 today, which means the test run will happen tomorrow.
In this first run, 80 PCBs will be populated using four different strategies (20 units each).
First, these PCBs will be tested for functionality. It might be that 15 out of 20 will not boot up with one strategy, that's why they're trying different ways to populate them.
Hopefully one of those strategies will lead to proper way of production (with a low failure rate), so we can continue with the remaining ones shortly after.
Some of these PCBs will also be x-rayed to make sure the production is as perfect as possible.
The DM3730 behaves a bit different than the OMAP. It's a bit lighter and bends a bit more easy.
That's why it's basically a completely new setup - not an easy task, but I'm sure GC can handle it fine.
Now you can imagine why the test run is that expensive: It might be that 50 out of those 80 PCBs won't work, so these are basically 50x180 EUR we can throw away... well, let's hope it won't come to that.
I can't speak for Craig (as I don't know the exact amount of 1GHz upgrades he got), but with the upgrades I got in my shop so far (without even ASKING my remaining old customers if they want to upgrade), I can fund 20 more units for classic preorders already. And as the upgraders are also classic preorders, they also are being removed from the queue.
So my upgrades alone help advancing the queue by 40 places
Pandora at the GamesCom
I mentioned it in a thread already, but I thought I could post it here as well.
The Pandora will have it's own area in the retro hall of the GamesCom in Cologne this year!
We'll have 14 units ready to be played lying around as well as some other stuff I sell (like Retrodes, Everdrives, etc.)
I'll have giveaways (probably T-Shirts, pens, etc.) and will be there the whole time in case you want to have some chat with me.
If someone here wants to volunteer to help me out running the booth (answering questions, take care nothing gets stolen, etc.), let me know. You can stay the full time for free.
You are very welcome to pay us a visit here. The GamesCom has about 200,000 visitors each year, so this will make the Pandora a bit more popular.
More information about the GamesCom can be found at the official website.
So much for my quick newspost - feel free to ask here if you have further questions.

Clearning up some code.
Changes: changeplayerproperty no longer returns value. The old function doesn't return properly on every property, so just remove it for the feature is a bit useless and doesn't show the exact problem. Should print proper error messages when necessary.
Fix: defense/offense related properties now store values in entity instead of its model.

June 10th, 2012, 02:38 Posted By: wraggster
As you may already know, a small test run of 150 1Ghz Pandora units is being produced in June/July.
What's new:
CPU is 1Ghz (overclockable)
GPU is now 200MHz instead of 110MHz
RAM is now 512MB instead of 256MB
Memory is clocked at 200MHz instead of 166MHz
CPU L1 cache increased from 16KB/16KB to 32KB/32K
Case is new stronger silver version
We already have samples and the 1Ghz version is about 66% faster than the 600Mhz version (this will be updated once further testing is done).
The 1Ghz unit can be overclocked and seems to overclock in a similar way to the 600Mhz version, so speeds of 1.2Ghz-1.4Ghz should be seen.
This run of 150 is expensive, which is reflected in the price. These simply exist because there is a demand for them, even at this price. We know it's expensive and not for everyone - but they will help OP.
These units use all the latest parts, nubs, LCD cable, RAM etc. The unit will be the most solid and best Pandora produced so far.
Email: openpandorasales@gmail.com with the topic '1Ghz Upgrade', then choose:
1)
Buying a whole new 1Ghz unit: $699 plus shipping - these are custom built and expensive. They have the silver case. They will be marked as 1Ghz special test run. I'm sure I and Ed can sign them.
2) (cheaper):
We swap your old unit for a new 1Ghz one.
What you have to do:
Pay $500 + shipping, Send back your unit, we will send you a new 1Ghz silver case unit.
We will keep your old PCB, we may use your LCD, keymat, buttons etc. on your upgraded unit if they are still in good shape.
^ this might be ideal if you have an old, tired Pandora.
------
If you *just* want a 1Ghz board:
Pay $500+shipping and send back your old PCB, we will send you the new PCB and you do the upgrade yourself. *recommended if you have a unit with the new LCD cable*. Replacing your PCB is a simple job.
------
If you have a preorder waiting to be shipped you can upgrade to the 1Ghz units by paying the difference.
Email: openpandorasales@gmail.com with the topic '1Ghz Upgrade' for questions.

We are currently developing a portable gaming system based on the Ingenic jZ4770 1GHz processor.
The hardware is in prototype stage and we are tweaking and adding things as the open source community tells us what they would like in this device.
The Open Source community has always wanted more so we have taken it upon ourselves to develop a console as close as we can to what the open source community wants.
We already have a core development team for the hardware and have started working with three developers for the actual OS development on the console which is in prototype phase also.
In the future we also plan on asking game and app developers to join the fold to further the development of the product into a full spectrum device.
The final goal is to have a gaming system with a Repository like Android app store where apps/games can be downloaded for free or purchased from developers on the repository. We are in development phase of this also with another group also called MyITKnowledge.com.

May 24th, 2012, 00:55 Posted By: wraggster
Whew, it has been a long time since I last made an official newspost.
The reason I didn't post was NOT that things are not going well - the reason simply was lack of time due to too much work...
I had a speed-holiday with my girlfriend (one day Europapark in Rust), and as I had my Pandora with me, I could make a newspost while it was her turn driving the car.
This is the first full newspost I made directly on the Pandora - the keyboard is really working well
So... let's see how everything is coming along, shall we?
1. The overall production
Overall, things are running pretty smooth and well.
Over 600 Pandoras have already been delivered (about 200 of those to long-time preorders) and we're currently getting a stable 100 per week units.
This is not yet full production speed. New test PCBs have been successful produced, so once the next batch of 1000 PCBs is finished, I'm planning to speed up to about 250 units per week.
The company COULD produce more per week - but we also have to sell and ship them, so 250 sounds like a good number to me.
To be honest, I'm pretty happy they didn't do more than 100 per week up until now - as I am flooded with work already and I don't plan to work myself to death...
I've got to catch up a lot of things right now. I got tons of emails left to reply, I had to work on the whole shop and order handling system as it was not suited for so many orders, I got some RMAs left (though MOST of them have been done already), etc.
Aditionally, all the pre-assembled units Askarus, Link and Linux_SWAT created have now been used up... so I'm currently also preassembling the next units.
About 250 left to go, from then on, Global Components will also do the full assembly.
So yeah, there's a lot of work still left for me to do, but I'm slowly catching up and should have most of the work done sometime in June.
Then I'm also prepared for a fullspeed production.
2. Parts and Cases
As usual, the stuff from China is late.
The new cases should've been finished mid-March, but as usual, they took a while longer.
Good thing I ordered them early... Fatih told me that they are already on the way.
So within the next few days, we'll get 5000 more cases. That should be enough
The new cases will also have a new color. It will be a dark silver, looking a bit like aluminium.
The new paint is way more scratch resistant and looks a lot better.
As soon as I got it, I'll take some pictures.
We still got some black cases left, so you will be able to decide what color you want.
We had some issues with the LCD-Cable company, but Fatih did a good job and we already got the next batch of cables now.
Another problem solved.
LCDs are becoming a bit harder to get (they're out of production), but we're not having too big issues sourcing them right now, so that's fine as well.
So all in all, besides that all these things are eating up our time, I don't see any big problems right now.
3. email backlogs...
Well, you probably already saw it on other threads here at the boards: my email backlog is still pretty long... I got about 700 emails left to reply, and though I take some time to reply to them each few days, the queue is only slowly shrinking.
Each day, I receive about 20 more emails I need to reply... so yep, this is a MASSIVE amount of work.
Please don't be mad about that - I'll reply to all of your mails, but with all the other things I have to do at the same time right now, I'm not that fast.
I try to look at the mails when they come in and try to reply to the most important ones, but sometimes one of these hides itself in the massive queue.
Once GC fully assembles the units and I've got less things to organize, this will get better.
4. Where in the world is...
... no, not Carmen Santiego... but we're looking for someone else.
We all know: It's simply not possible that NOTHING goes wrong within Pandora-Land... so yeah, here is something new.
When buying bigger parts in large quantities (like LCDs and AC adaptors), you either have to handle the custom declaration yourself when you want to pick them up at the airport or get an agent who will do that for you.
Agents are not that expensive - and unlike me, they know what they're doing (and doing custom declaration wrong REALLY can cause issues).
So I hired the company SoundMoves at Munich Airport to do that for me.
Sent them the import tax fee right away (5000 EUR), picked up the custom documents and the goods, and everything was fine.
This was in March.
One week ago, I got an invoice from the customs about these 5000 EUR. Apparently, they hadn't been paid by SoundMoves... and SoundMoves are not able to pay them, so I have to pay them again.
WTH? SoundMoves bankrupt? It's a big worldwide operating company... handling transport for musicians like Madonna and U2...
Weird.
As I wasn't able to contact anyone in the Munich office, I emailed the main office in London.
And things got even weirder then.
They told me the company in Munich is a totally different company founded by the same CEO. He simply used the good name of the company to open up a new one... he even used their website for this company... even though the London office tried to tell him to use a different name.
Whew, what a bloke. But it gets even better.
The London office told me he also owes them quite a bit of money.
AND they don't even know where he is - they asked me to tell them his whereabouts in case I get hold of him.
They only know that he sometimes visits the office when no one is there to grab the mail and he most probably is somewhere in Italy... geeez.
Now most of you probably know that it's nigh impossible to get money back from a company that has filed for bankruptcy.
However, the case is a bit different here: They never had the right to use the 5000 EUR from me for themselves. It was not THEIR money, it was money they got simply to forward it to customs.
So this is fraud - which means: the CEO is personally liable for that.
My lawyer is already working on it and I'll pay a visit to the police tomorrow to report him.
Then they'll start a search for him...
In Pandora-Land, there's always something weird happening.
I'm pretty positive we'll get the money back from him soon, so this is mostly simply annoying and eating up some more of my precious time.
So all in all things are still working fine here
I wish it was less work for me, but I'm working towards that

Ive been working with the yamagi quake2 port and it now works on the caanoo and wiz with OpenGL-ES acceleration. It runs pretty well for the caanoo and wiz.
So far I have not seen any textures drop and without needing to shrink any of them.
The wiz version does have a hack to decrease memory use, I had it lock up once. So long periods of playing may cause it to lock up.
All buttons can map to a key, and a/b/x/y are all enabled to trigger maps if pressed at the same time, for instance A+X will do F1.
Expansion support is provided, but i didnt test on the caanoo or wiz.
I used the quake 1 bar graphic for caanoo, so if anyone comes up with a better one ill include it.

As quite a few of you asked about upgrading their preorder to get the unit a bit faster, I've finished the submission form to apply for that.
This is only applicable if you ordered the Pandora before October 2011.
The money made from these upgrades will be used to fund more pre-October 2011-Preorder-Units, so this will help everyone still waiting patiently for his / her Pandora to get it a bit faster
It will also help us to cover a bit of the loss that the old PCB production company caused us.
It's up to you to decide how much you want to pay for that. The mininum is 85 EUR (or 101,15 EUR incl. 19% VAT)., though you can also pay more if you want.
The Payment doesn't have to be done before your unit is ready to be dispatched - so there's no risk.
To apply for the upgrade, follow this link
