A Pandora just arrived this morning at my place. While I didn't have much time now, I couldn't do a video - but I could do some pictures.
As I didn't have too much time, there's some dust and speckles here and there. The final product will look fine, of course, this is just an MP prototype with a very quick finishing.
Enjoy

The Pandora Console was announced late last year and infact i was one of the primary people involved in promoting the preorders of the console.
Sadly they hit one snag after another first with Banks playing up and then the usual manufacturing problems but now they are at Mass Production stage and the Worlds most powerful open source Linux based Handheld is at Mass Production Stage and its looking awesome.
The build quality is right up there with the likes of consoles from Nintendo and Sony.
The Console thanks to the excellent homebrew community will have the usual fullspeed Snes, Nes, Genesis, 32X, GBA and PSX emulators but what makes it more special and the real eye opener is that Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast Emulation are for the first time available on an handheld, infact i was told today that F-Zero X, 1080 Snowboarding, Starfox 64, Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64 are all at full speed and the Dreamcast Emulator will make jaws drop.

The Odroid derives its name from the combination of Open and Android. The hardware is aimed at the portable gaming market and runs Android. The specs are amazing, the device is open and begging you to develop for the platform.
The Samsung S5PC100 System-On-A-Chip provides the device with an ARM Cortex-A8 processor running at 833MHz. The usual suspects are all here, a capacitive touchscreen, accelerometer, SDHC slot, and WiFi. What you usually don’t expect to see is a serial debugger and 720p HD output. But the best part, we get all of this without a 2 year contract or the hardware being locked down as we’re used to with and Android based cell phone.

From today, Nimbuzz users on Symbian can enjoy full integration with the world's fastest-growing social network, as Nimbuzz incorporates a feature-rich Twitter client that includes Timelines, Direct Messaging, Searches, Trends and Profiles, and outperforms standalone Twitter applications. A world first for Symbian handsets is also the introduction of pop-up notifications on the home screen, notifying users of incoming chats and events, while the application runs in the background. This new version also supports kinetic scrolling.

Concerned for a long-suffering Pandora pre-orderer in you life? Well, you might want to keep them away from sharp knives and their dormant SD card full of rare ROMs for the next few weeks. The device has seemed tantalizingly close in recent months, but new word from the front lines means that we won't be seeing the final devices ship out until well into the new year. Luckily, the list of tweaks sounds pretty minor, including an adjustment to shoulder button action perfection that we can all get behind, but we suppose it also serves as a sobering example of just how hard it can be to actually get good hardware (or even the crappy stuff) built. Cough, CrunchPad, cough.

Despite widespread inferences to the contrary, obtaining root access to the Droid is, indeed, possible. Just this week, Cyanogen, a famous Android modder, confirmed the speculation on Twitter, saying that, yes, the “Droid does … ROOT.”
Zinx Verituse, the clever hacker who mined the exploit, isn't hoarding the details and links necessary to prevent other modders from doing the same. You can follow the guide yourself by clicking here.
In a nutshell, gaining root access bestows the opportunities one might expect - for example, the ability to customize the device with multitouch features lke the pinch-to-zoom functionality conspicuously absent in the Android 2.0. Additionally, a successful hack also means you can gain access to widgets and skins that would ordinarily be "off-limits" to the Droid.

Nokia's Ovi Store is currently generating nearly one million downloads a day, according to George Linardos, the company's VP of Product, Media.
However, the company has already been working on a completely rebuilt version of the store, which is due to be launched next year.
“We're doing just under one million downloads a day, and our download numbers are growing 100% month-on-month,” said Linardos, at a roundtable event in London to discuss the company's app strategy with journalists.
However, he also said that the current iteration of the Ovi Store has always been intended as a stopgap measure, designed originally to consolidate Nokia's various content distribution initiatives – Download, MOSH and WidSets.
“All the while there's been this new platform being built in the background, which we'll be talking about in the next couple of months and launching in the Spring with what we're calling 2.0,” said Linardos.
“It's being built from scratch with a few legacy components, which will be phased out over the course of 2.1 and 2.2. So it'll probably be about 75% from scratch, and three or four months after that it will be 100%.”
Ovi Store 2.0's key improvements will focus on speed, user interface and reliability. For the full report on today's roundtable, click here.
EDIT: Nokia clarified at the end of the roundtable event - after this story was published - that 2.0 is not the official term for what's being launched in Spring. It's more of a refresh, or 'replatforming'.

The head of AT&T's wireless services division told investors today that smartphone users who consume more bandwidth than the carrier considers reasonable may end up paying more for it. Ralph de la Vega, the CEO of AT&T Mobility, also said in his speech to attendees of a UBS investors conference that his company intends to address the problems users have complained about in New York and San Francisco. "This is going to get fixed," de la Vega said. "In both of those markets, I am very confident that you're going to see significant progress."
In his speech, de la Vega also promised that any changes in the carrier's pricing structure would respect net neutrality. He said future plans would depend on how well AT&T would be able to track real-time usage, and that pricing will be affected not just by regulation but by pressure from outside competitors...

Pandora fans are definitely partying tonight. Michael Weston and crew have uploaded the first pics of manufacturing test unit built using the mass production parts -- as team member Craig Rothwell noted over at the GP32X forums, even if minor tweaks are deemed necessary, for all intents and purposes this is the first production unit. There's plenty more pics in Weston's Photobucket gallery, including a veritable sea of internal boards (seen after the break). Rothwell says more pics and video are coming but gave no indication of when -- if you think you can temper your excitement, it might be best to sleep tonight and check in on things again tomorrow.

While you're all waiting for the final Pandora case which should arrive within the next hours at Michaels place, I started doing some nice videos. Within the next days, I'll be constantly releasing small snippets of the Pandora OS. Nothing spectacular, but nice to look at
Today we'll start with he First-Boot-Wizard. The wizard which will appear upon first boot and help you to setup your device. The script is still being worked on, you can see a /n which doesn't belong there (already fixed that in the script), but it won't change too much

Samsung has launched its inaugural Samsung Application Store Developer Challenge, which calls for developers to submit a game or application in order to potentially win a USD 100,000 prize.
The competition is open to UK or Italy based developers that are registered to sell paid apps through Samsung's Seller Office, and runs until December 10.
Games or applications that "buck the trend and deliver a unique experience" are what the judging panel will be looking for. The eight app categories that can be submitted into are Games, Entertainment, Health/Life, E-Book, Productivity, Reference, Social Networking and Utilities.
As well as a USD 100,000 grand prize, there will also be 36 individual cash rewards given to commended applications.
The target handheld device for submissions is the Omnia II and entries must be native to Windows Mobile. Full information and registration details can be found on the Samsung website.

New for Pandora:
A tool that validates PXML files. You will need Java to run the application.
It can run in 3 modes:
- "syntax": checks the XML syntax of the file
- "permissive": checks the most important aspects of the PXML format
- "strict": goes through the PXML file, highlighting every little issue it can find.
Use "pxml-validator --help" (On Windows: "java -jar pxml.validator.jar --help") for more information .

More awesome Pandora News:
Your all waiting for more shiny case pictures, right? Well... we all are.
However, I did make a fault with my last blog post - as the pictures had been released, I assumed the shipment to Michael was on the way. It isn't yet - sorry about that, I was so excited about that myself, I really thought it was on the way.
The reason the cases are not yet on the way to Michael is that one mould still had a problem with the shrinking. What's that, you might ask? Well, due to the big heat and cooling off afterwards, the material shrinks a bit - and if the mould is not perfectly adjusted, it doesn't fit 100% or will look ugly.
To adjust it perfectly it has to be done a bit via a trial and error method: Check where the shrinking occurs, change the mould there, try again, etc.
It's nothing major and no problem at all, it's a normal process in mould creation and shouldn't take more than a couple of days. We're still trying to ship as many as possible before christmas!
I thought I'd just let you know
Back to some got news: The board production is still going fine. Everything is ready for the big run, it looks like there won't be any delay here, yeeha.
As there was a discussion about suspend, etc. going on at the boards: We're working on a temporary solution as REAL suspend to RAM is pretty complicated and will definately take a while. Therefore, we include as much power saving functions as possible to make it similar to suspend. It's basically the same way mobile phones and PDAs do work (they don't suspend, otherwise you couldn't get a phone call). With proper power management, this standby mode should long about 10 days until you need to recharge the battery, so that should be fine enough.
Of course, you can always shut the system down completely so it won't need any more power at all
That's it for today, let's hope the shrinkage will be fixed really soon!

Some more great news concerning the Pandora, looks like its really coming together now:
As promised, here are some pictures of the final case (old and new ones), fresh from China, taking right before they shipped them to Michael.
This does mean, you'll see the first finished Pandora really soon, as Michael will be able to build it once the parts did arrive. Neat, eh?
If anybody does think those cases do look cheap: Yep, they do. But don't worry, they won't look like when the real mass production starts: The finishing is missing on those, as finishing test cases doesn't make much sense (it doesn't change the geometry and will just cost a bit more).
You could say we're just one tiny little step before the Pandora will finally be released from Vapourware state!
Stay tuned for more pictures!

Evil Dragon has just posted this news over at the official Pandora site:
What? Another blog post? And still no pictures of the finished case?
Well... yes. but I thought you might be interested in the (good this time!) news we have.
ALL the moulds are finished now! They are currently doing a test injection (we should be getting the results tonight or tomorrow).
If the injection is fine, they'll ship the sample case via express to Michael. And if he says "Yep, that's what we want!" they'll immediately start producing.
And now here's our special deal: After talking with them, threatening their life and bribing them with more money the Gizmondo guys ever spent... ahem. Well, anyway, they agreed to start immediately and finish 1000 cases until December 1st!
The rest will follow shortly after, but this would mean we can start mass production as planned early december.
Okay, cross your fingers, pray to the mould injection gods and wait for some new pictures!

via Engadget
Adding insult to Sony Ericsson's injurious bottom line, Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U shops (the UK's largest mobile phone retailers) have halted sales of the SE's Symbian-powered Satio handset after a high number of customer returns and complaints.
A "software glitch" reportedly causes Sony Ericsson's flagship device to power down when users try to access certain applications -- unfortunately, the issue can't be patched via an over-the-air update. A little digging into CPW discussion forums reveals multiple complaints of freezes, crashes, under-performing batteries, and bizarre interface behavior. Both the Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U will offer "new phones" to customers fed up with their Satio. Richard Dorman, senior marketing manager at Sony Ericsson, concedes the issue and assures us that it should be sorted by Christmas.
Until then, you can still purchase the handset directly from Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile... but really, why would you? The Satio's not the only dubiously-speced 12 megapixel cameraphone on the market.

Summeli has updated his excellent Snes emulator for the S60 range of phones, heres his release details:
It’s really hard to test the touch with N97, but at least the d-pad seems to be working better and start/select seem to be responding too
The project has now a wikipage at github. So if you’ll find any good configs you can post them into the wiki page too.
