I posted about the Pandora months before anyother site and its great to see finally the realisation of the most poweful homebrew console ever, heres the latest update from Openpandora:
We've got some good news! 103 out of the 105 boards did pass the test, this is slightly more than 98% success rate!
TI set up a unique testing environment, especially for the Pandora boards. With a special firmware, every hardware piece of the Pandora can be checked with as little human interaction as possible.
The first 105 m...
We also got some news from the moulds company. It looks they're finally nearing completion of the last mould which means we should see the final case moulds soon. There's not much time left until christmas - but you can be sure we'll do everything possible to assemble and ship it out just in time!
The latest OS image is also running pretty stable. I've been playing around with XFCE myself for the last hours and didn't encounter any crashes. I'm currently working on Pandora themes in various sizes.
Enough blog posting for me today, back to work on the Pandora OS

Just in time for the Pixi's grand debut, webOS devices (that's just Pixi and Pre) now have their first official Facebook app, joining the ranks of iPhone and Android... and we're sad to report that it's about as barebones as they can get. It pulls from the raw live stream, seemingly unfiltered -- even if you said "no" to Farmville updates on your main feed, they'll show up here. Clicking a YouTube link brings you to the YouTube app, clicking links go to browser. You can update your status or upload a photo, but that's about it. You can't seem to search Facebook for any info, view events, or anything else, and clicking on someone's name or photo brings up their contact info. And that's about it -- can someone give Joe Hewitt a ring? Still, it's better than nothing. WebOS 1.3.1 is required, not that you had any reason to hold off upgrading.

Sony Ericsson weren’t, to be fair, being all that coy about their launch plans for the XPERIA X10 Android smartphone back at its launch a few weeks ago: asked when it was likely the touchscreen Snapdragon handset would arrive within its “Q1 2010″ window, the SE exec told us “it’s not going to be the beginning or the end of the quarter”. We presumed a February release, then, likely around or about Mobile World Congress, and sure enough Sony Ericsson’s own online store are suggesting a February arrival for the X10.
It’s possible to pre-register interest, though not preorder at this stage, which means we’re still not entirely clear on how much the XPERIA X10 will cost. Still, this is a premium handset and, as part of Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA range, will be priced accordingly; online retailer Clove are saying £400 ($668) pre-tax, though we’re guessing that’s speculative rather than based on any solid figures.
More interesting than the general release is when the XPERIA X10 might make it to North American shores. Sony Ericsson did express their intention to launch the smartphone there – complete with its nifty Timescape and Mediascape apps – but blamed carrier issues for what will likely be a release later in 2010.

Yar, that was fast. Less than a day after Microsoft updated its Windows Marketplace for Mobile with new advanced anti-piracy measure, some apt xda-developers community member has managed to crack the new code -- in under two hours, according to Chainfire's posting. The hack itself won't be posted, but we're sure other astute programmers, many of more nefarious intention, will be able to have their way with it just as easy. Sad for developers who've been wanting something more secure -- better luck next update.

We've already got some smartphone beasts in the market like the Pre and the iPhone, but Android hasn't really had a supercharged, drool-worthy device yet -- a knight in shining armor ready to sweep the platform off its feet and ride off into the sunset. The DROID could very well be that device, so we're turning the question over to you: are you jumping in?

“Right now our sights are trained on Natal," says Studio head
Developer Rare has revealed in an interview with MCV that it is "hopeful" of creating an FPS for new Xbox platform Project Natal.
The firm, best known for its work on GoldenEye, Banjo-Kazooie and Perfect Dark told MCV that it is focused on Natal – which it saw as a "great opportunity".
“Right now our sights are trained on Natal, which is a great opportunity to break new ground with content and gameplay," said Rare's head of studio Mark Betteridge.
The revelation follows previous hints from inside Rare that Natal was being used to reinvigorate old IP.
“One [IP] I think we can do an absolutely phenomenal, absolutely phenomenal version on with Natal," the studio said in August.
"The interface, the way you interact with it... it would be an absolutely world-beating product. But we need to explore a little bit more in that direction.”
Speaking in MCV's special feature on the evolution of the FPS genre, Betteridge said that Natal was "an opportunity to exercise some genre evolution, so hopefully we’ll be able to develop something on that front.”
Betteridge also discussed the creation of GoldenEye on N64, which broke new ground in terms of the populairty of FPS games on console.
“The final product was a more traditional FPS than we’d first planned – it’s well-documented that the original design was all on-rails,” he added.
“As the work progressed we realised that it made sense to shift development in that direction, both as a game and as a potential asset for Nintendo.
"It turned out to be a great tool for attracting a different type of gamer to the N64. Up to that point the consoles had never been able to field many serious competitors to the PC FPS market.”

Not to say "we told you so," but we told you so. Google won't be releasing its own Android hardware. Not now, not ever.
Head of Android development Andy Rubin states the obvious by saying it would be foolish for Google to "compete with its customers" who license the OS. In his own words, "We're not making hardware. We're enabling other people to build hardware."
This is how licensing OSes has generally worked, with the PC and Windows Mobile. (But not with the Mac during the clone wars, which eventually ended in cancellation.)
As CNET points out, Google sometimes plays a part in designing phones. Apparently the hinge mechanism in the G1 was added at Google's request. But that's a long way from designing a whole phone.
Phones like the Droid were also rumored to have been developed with Google helping along the way. As long as the trend keeps up, I'm sure Google will be perfectly happy to let Motorola, HTC and others spread their OS like the sneaky little world-dominating thing it is.

News from Evil dragon:
Hi folks!
We got overwhelmed with eMails, so it took a while to answer them all - and also to find a few minutes to post at this blog again.
Quite a few things have happened, if you followed the boards, you might've seen most of them.
If not, here are the latest news for you:
1. WiFi is working!
Yep, finally, after months of hard work by mostly DJWillis (with help from other devs), WiFi is working!
WEP, WPA, WPA2... including one of the best GUIs, the Network Manager are working fine!
Additionally, XFCE is shaping up, so you might even get a REAL cool desktop manager!
2. Cases will ship sometime this week
According to the company which creates the moulds, the first samples of the cases should ship within this week (they didn't say any exact date).
That does mean that they should arrive latest next week - and if everything is fine, it's CASE MASS PRODUCTION time. Yeeeha!
3. First preview of Silk Screening for the case
Michael released a very first version of the silk screening for the case which led to this gp32x.com-Thread. You guys did provide a lot of good ideas there which we will implement into a final version. Thanks! You're a really cool community.
4. Emulation goodness
Devving for the Pandora continues. There's now a first version of a MUPEN port already - an N64 emulator.
Thanks to Ari64, Pickle and all the devs involved (you can find out more infos about it on this GP32x.com thread)
Here's a nice video of Michael playing Super Mario 64. The sound is stuttering as emulation is not fullspeed yet, but it's really really promising already.

Shares in sat-nav device companies have fallen substantially after Google unveiled its free live sat-nav for mobiles on Wednesday.
US firm Garmin fell 18% after details of Google Maps Navigation were revealed. Dutch firm TomTom dropped 13% on when markets opened on Thursday.
The Google application promises free real-time, turn-by-turn directions for people to follow on their phones.
The Motorola Droid will be the first mobile phone equipped with the system.
Google Maps Navigation, revealed on Wednesday, combines services including a search engine to find addresses, Google Street View for photos of locations, and live traffic data.
Other mobile sat-nav applications, such as TomTom's, can cost up to £60 to add.
TomTom's share decline wipes out all of its gains since August. Separately the company warned of lower prices in the coming months.

We apologize for being fanish, but Google has pulled off something with its new Navigation elements in Google Maps (or is it Google Maps in a Navigation app? It's hard to tell) that has serious ramifications for a navigation device industry used to charging money for functionality. The introduction of satellite view, a tasteful touch of street view (peep a still of your next turn, or see your destination), and of course regular stuff like spoken directions and street names, and Google's voice recognition applied to search (anywhere on the device just tap voice search and start your phrase with "navigate to") make this a pretty astonishing offering for what's essentially a free app with the purchase of an Android 2.0 device. The biggest worry here is that if you lose signal you won't be able to pull maps, but while there's no whole-map caching, it does cache a route when you enter it in, so as long as you don't stray too far from the beaten path you should be fine with a dropped signal here or there. But enough of our blather, check out a video walkthrough after the break.

Software giant's branded retail operation to launch in line with Windows 7 release
Microsoft will open the first of its branded retail stores next Thursday, October 22nd, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The date is in line with the release of its next operating system, Windows 7.
The site, in Scottsdale, Arizona, is expected to showcase PCs and mobile phones running Microsoft software, as well as its own Xbox 360 hardware. A further site is reportidly planned for Viejo, California.
The move is seen by many as a response to Apple's branded stores, which have helped boost the firm's popularity since they're roll out.

We've already seen Nokia's Maemo 5-powered N900 pull off some pretty fanciful tricks, but without qualification this is the one most dear to our hearts. Somehow or another, Konttori managed to get his palms around an N900 of his own, and rather than testing out the social networking abilities or battery life, he simply installed an SNES emulator, tweaked it to accept Wiimote controls and even connected it to his TV for a staggeringly authentic gameplay experience. Vicarious living is just a click or two away, so hop on past the break for a video of the action. Oh, and don't mind the baby -- he's not in the corner or anything.

The Pre's proven to be an eminently hackable platform pretty much from day one, and given that, it stands to reason that major "missing" features are going to either be added in the hard way or a few good programmers are going to die trying. The virtual keyboard developments are seen as a big win for users, and next up is true video recording -- something inexplicably missing from the device considering its ample (well, theoretically ample) processing power. Work on homebrew recording tools seems to be moving along nicely, with some open-source tools already available -- so far, they're apparently able to push it to 480 x 320 at 30fps, but it comes out encoded strangely and doesn't resemble anything your average end user would want to be dealing with. That's where Palm hopefully comes in with a future webOS update, but for now, at least we're able to play around. Follow the break for video of the hack in action.
