After teasing the market multiple times, Microsoft Corp. plans to finally confirm today that it's bringing its most money-making desktop software franchise online and to smart phones. Microsoft will release lightweight versions of four components of its Microsoft Office suite for the Web and Windows Mobile smart phones, said Chris Capossela, senior vice president of Microsoft's business division, in an interview on Monday

What has been happening lately, you might ask...
Well, while craig and Michael have been organizing a lot (all the different parts have to be ordered from different companies and shipped to mass production), me and the devs have focused more on the default OS.
Ångström Linux is running very well already, with a lot of nice apps like Abiword, Pidgin, Gimp, ... Check out the Ångström site for information about what the distribution is all about and does feature.
I hope I can get the latest images soon, so I can show you some videos running.
In the meantime, I have a very very small video for you to show: The current, still early status of gmenu2x on the Pandora. Colors do look ugly at the moment, as the Kernel I have on my Pandora currently only supports 16bpp while gmenu expects 24bpp. The icons are still very small - but as you can see, it works!
On the video I move the pointer around with a USB mouse, clicking through various sections and finally starting PicoDrive Pandora!

The Fuze, otherwise known as the HTC Touch Pro, first turned up briefly on AT&T's website more than a month ago only to be abruptly pulled down, but it's now finally made a reappearance, and it's apparently staying for good this time. As you might expect, however, there's not exactly anything new to be found, with AT&T's description of the device identical to the one it first put up, but if you had any doubts that the device was in fact headed to AT&T, and that it would indeed be called the Fuze, you can now safely put those to rest. Now, about that release date...

News from ED:
It has been a while since you got a blog update - I KNOW you were waiting for one.
Well, that problem with PayPal and your MASSIVE preorders including hundreds of eMails to reply to did take some time, so we did not have much time to do blog updates.
As the Pandora is coming close to a release now, we also had to do a lot of organization work so that everything will come together nicely.
Still, we were working on other stuff for the Pandora, too, so here is a brief update:
- We did some font tests for the GUI (gmenu2x - and another one is in development, so you should have two GUIs soon ). The gp2x font was way too small on such a high resolution screen, so we did some testings and found out what font size is readable and what not. With the font fixed, gmenu2x is now fully working on the Pandora the same way it is on the gp2x. Now we can focus on improvements. I'll post a video soon - but I'm out of the office until October 19th, please be patient until that time
- The last components and fixes for the prototype case are being applied at the moment. That includes the keyboard mat and the hole for the stylus. Shouldn't be too long now until the case is finished.
Here are some pictures of the WIP keyboard mat. Still missing some stuff like air channels, but looking very nice already:

Spb Software, the world's leading maker of Windows Mobile applications announces the release of Spb Online Games as a separate suite. Originally, part of Spb Online - a set of online services under one roof, which attracted over 15,000 users in under two weeks (at the rate of more than 1000 users per day) - Spb Online Games is a collection of four instant online games, supplemented with an online chat service. Spb Online Games makes it possible to play two versions of Checkers, Hexagon, or Reversi with real people from virtually anywhere in the world, in real-time. Any online game can be launched within 30 seconds and if interrupted – continued from the spot it was left off. The service already has thousands of registered players on the network, with each potential opponent equipped with a configurable user profile (might include picture, name, type of handset, and network). The online gaming experience can be further personalized through real-time chatting with active online players. All of new Spb Online Games features (such as the online chat service and more informative user profile) will become available to registered users of Spb Online through automatic ‘push’ update to Spb Online version 1.1.

Fake Call is a quick and easy way to "call yourself" in order to politely escape social situations. While pretending to receive a phone call is possible without any special software, this usually takes too many awkward key presses and fumbling. Fake Call makes it as easy as pressing 1 button, and provides an extremely realistic incoming call experience. It also includes powerful scheduling and personalization features in a simple, unobtrusive user interface."

This shouldn't be surprising at all to anyone even remotely familiar with HTC's tendencies, but the Touch HD is officially not ever shipping to America (unless you import, obviously). The news was dropped via a Tweet (of all things), but evidently, the outcry over what we figured was common knowledge has caused some windows to be rattled in the penthouse offices.
Another official Tweet followed to thank everyone for "expressing their desire for the HD," with the author noting that "US management now knows there's a grassroots demand for high-end HTCs here." Really, HTC? You needed a flood of angry Twitter comments to understand that Americans would give their second born for a phone like the Touch HD?

Craigix posted:
Paypal have decided to cancel all Pandora preorders placed via them.
More info as I (if I) get it.
The reason why it was canceled? Well deep in Paypals terms and conditions you have:
You also agree not to use your PayPal account to sell goods with delivery dates delayed more than 20 days from the date of payment, or to sell securities, business opportunities, franchises or multi-level marketing or goods with delivery delayed more than 20 days from the date of payment. You agree not to impersonate a PayPal User or a PayPal representative, or to request that a PayPal customer provide you with their password or other information to access their account.

We will continue to accept Pandora orders for the first batch until SUNDAY - we will increase the first batch manufactured to match these orders.
After that it will be from the second batch in 2009.
We recommend you order as soon as possible as we must start production next week.
We are also answering as many emails as we can, but if possible can you check the new forum we have set up (see blog) as the old forum is still dead from being overloaded.
