the gpSP is a gameboy advance emulator originally written by Exophase. And now it’s ported to the Symbian OS!
The newest update adds support for Sony Ericsson Satio and Vivaz. In all other ways it’s the same package as the 0.6 with experimental audio. The audio is pretty much behind from the action (sound lag), but it still can create quite nice mood for RPG-games.
How to get good audio:
At least with some games it seems that the emulator can not buffer enough when the audio is set “ON” when loading a ROM. If the audio is clicking badly you should set the audio OFF and click continue. Now the emulator will have some time to buffer some audio After a while you can switch the audio back into ON position again.

News via http://www.openpandora.org/index.php...emid=2&lang=en
Michael had a looong conference call with the board production company today to discuss about how to proceed and speed up production.
Here is a short summary of the results of the discussion with them and the current plans of both us and the company:
Basically, they built enough boards now to know what things they have to take care of during board production to produce high quality boards - which means: They know how long they approximately need for producing and testing them.
Additionally, to speed things up, they agreed to produce and test the rest of the remaining boards even if there are no nubs ready yet!
So as soon as the new nubs are finished (probably sometime in September), there will be a lot of working boards waiting to get the nubs soldered-on.
We will most likely get a massive batch of finished boards in September... and we'll make sure we have enough cases prepared when they come.
The company wants to have the first batch finished mid-October. Our original plans before we knew about the nubs was to finish everything end of September - so we're not that far behind.
The parts for Batch 2 should also be available mid-October - so Batch 2 should start directly after Batch 1 is finished. That does mean: Batch 2 should be finished by Christmas.
Please keep in mind that these guesstimations are not our guesstimations - but actual plans of the board company. Will they be able to do it? We don't know yet, but we're optimistic. We also hope all parts for Batch 2 will arrive in time. With such crazy leadtimes (12 - 14 weeks), you never know.
So, once again, the plan in short:
Board production will now start in fullspeed, finished probably mid-October (Batch 1) or by Christmas (Batch 2).
Until the new nubs are there, the boards will be produced, fully tested and stored. As soon as the nubs arrive, they will be soldered onto the boards and everything will be shipped to UK.
While that happens, I will solder tons of LCD cables, while Craig and his helpers will prepare the cases and the lids for the big batch of boards.
Then all we need to do is try to keep up with the board production speed... wish us luck

A little backstory: HP has an annual in-house event for its employees called TechCon, and this year a challenge was issued to the engineers to make the best webOS app (free phones were offered as incentive). Got that? Good. This week, HP CTO Phil McKinney had a brief chat with Pre Central over Twitter, where he revealed that the contest culminated in about 500 produced apps, and that "[they] are in the final stage of selecting 'best app' winners." Does that mean we should expect a large bump to the current catalog of programs? We can't say for sure, but we wouldn't be surprised if many of these are already available to download. Additionally, we can't say anything as for the overall quality of submissions. Edging closer to the 4,000-app milestone is great and all but not if it includes 250 different Angry Birds clones. Still, we're ever-hopeful and can't wait to see what exactly it was that came from the internal coding challenge.

News from the official Pandora Blog:
Well, quite a few things have happened, so here is another update for you.
1. All about the nubs
In case you didn't know yet: Quite a few nubs had problems right from the beginning (a failure rate of 20 - 25% is just inacceptable!) and even some of the working ones have failed a while later (though not too many, thankfully).
Therefore, the manufacturer got a pile of non-working nubs back from us to find out what's wrong and test them.
It didn't take too long to find the problem: Mostly a tolerance issue. That's why most were working, but some failing.
The first workaround: Doing a mechaniical test all of the nubs, a quick thing that allowed us to ship more Pandoras out to you, but not the final solution, because it still slows things down - and is not 100% reliable.
So I'm very happy to report that the first samples of the (hopefully) fixed nubs will be finished within this week, ready to be stress tested.
If testing goes well and it proves that those nubs have no issues, they will go into mass production.
This will hopefully mean the end of any nub problems.
What does this mean?
We will continue production of the boards and Pandoras with the tested nubs until the new ones are there. Basically, there should be no difference between tested ones and newly produced ones as long as they work. But the newly produced ones shouldn't have such high failure rate.
When the new ones are finished, the testing process (which slows production down, too) is not needed anymore and things should go more smoothly.
2. All about the boards
Right after we met in UK to assemble the very first Pandoras, we had to stall board production because we had so many broken nubs.
Replacing nubs does cost us money (and a lot of time). If it only were a few, we could've continued - but with that high failure rate, we first had to find out what was wrong here.
Even though the manufacturer was working very fast on this issue, we first had to desolder some non-working nubs so that the manufacturer could test and find the error, so that did cost us a few weeks.
Since the manufacturer started to test the nubs, production has been started again. First, we only got 100 boards to test if the nubs work fine. Then we got 200 more (currently being assembled) and the next batch that has been announced will be a whopping 500 boards (don't know exactly yet when we'll get them).
Also, as the board production company now knows the amount of work that's needed and seeing that new, working nubs are on the way, we're currently discussing with them to sign a contract about a minimum amount of boards per week.
At the moment, all they do is produce as many as they can in the time they have (as long as production wasn't reliable, they wouldn't have done any other contract).
A minimum-per-week-contract would be the best thing - as then we finally have some realistic figures on when your Pandoras will be finished and how fast it all goes. And bigger projects wouldn't interfere with board production anymore.
These are the things we're currently working on - and if they work out fine, things should finally go smoother - and A LOT faster!
3. All about the Pandora
As posted, I had a Pandora at the GamesCom - and that definately was a good idea.
Interest was pretty high, a lot of people came to see and / or test out the Pandora - and as far as I've been told, they all liked it.
That's pretty cool.
I've got another offer if you didn't manage to go there: If you ever come near Ingolstadt (Germany), you're free to come visit me to have a chat (or coffee) with me and test out the Pandora live! Just drop me a PM or mail if you want to come visit me.
Okay, that's for todays news. Hopefully more good news on board and nub production soon. Oh, and I'm currently uploading two more videos for you
For anyone not knowing where to find my Pandora videos - check out my YouTube channel! There are a lot of videos there, might be especially interesting for newcomers.

News via http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php...dpost&p=909715
The Pandora was _made_ for this!
Some of you may be familiar with my early Kronos project for Pandora, which currently lets you play Magnetic Scrolls text adventure games (though it will soon offer also Scott Adams and Infocom/zmachine type games as well.) Kronos is not so expansive as Gargoyloe, but does aim for stuff like auto-mapping and whatnot.
Anyway, Gargoyle is an interpreter collection with goals of being very attractive to look at and readable (including subpixel rendering and gorgeous fonts and so forth, as well as supporting customization to typesetting) and to support many interpreters; to this end, it supports such true classics as Infocom/zmachine style (including modern formats like the newer Inform stuff from the indie scene), Magnetic Scrolls, Level 9, Hugo, TADS 2 and 3, and more. (Adrift, Agility, Alan 2 and 3, Glulxe, GIT, a whole slew of these guys.) The only one that I often hit that is not supported is Scott Adams, but I'll fold that into Kronos.
Real gargoyle homepage is: http://ccxvii.net/gargoyle/
Download is here (currently uploading to appstore as well): http://www.walled.net/~jmitchell/gar...e_20100823.pnd
Screenshot is here: http://www.walled.net/~jmitchell/gargoyle/screen.png
App store download is up: http://apps.open-pandora.org/cgi-bin...e_20100823.inf
The package should 'just work'; run the pnd from your menu of choice, and picka story-file using my silly little picker. It will try to figure out which interpreter to use based on the file name .. ie: .z* will go to frotz (more or less), and .mag to magnetic srolls. It usually makes sense, but some like '.dat' are too generic and may go to the wrong interpreter.
When you want to save (ie: type "save" into the interpreter) it'll give you a directory picker, so you can specify where; likewise for 'restore' or 'load'. So no worries about files going to some hidden location.
Should you wish to override the default choices for look and feal, you can override the garglk.ini file, but creating a new one in /pandora/appdata/gargoyle/garglk.ini -- in there you can specify different fonts, justification or not, subpixel rendering or not, etc and so on; let me know if you would like details or not

The Pandora is a mixture between a PC and a gaming console. That's why it has gaming controls (Buttons, DPad and analogue nubs). It is fast enough to emulate many other systems, run a full desktop, access the internet via FireFox and play games such as Quake3. However, it is not as big as a netbook. Believe it or not, it will fit in your pocket. It's a bit bigger than the Nintendo DS.
The screen is an impressive 800*480 resolution LCD and the battery life is a sensational 10+ hours. But the most interesting part is probably that it isn't designed by a large company, it was designed by the suggestions and requests of hundreds of people on the gp32x forums. Over several months those suggestions were fine tuned in to what you see today, a completely new open source handheld.
The Pandora is running an OpenSource OS: it's basically Ångström-Linux with some Pandora-specific changes. The source code is here: (git.openpandora.org).
Specs:- Texas Instruments OMAP3530 processor at 600MHz (officially)
- 256MB DDR-333 SDRAM

We had a chance to ask Michael Mrozek of the Pandora development team to answer some of questions. We ask questions ranging from, what is Pandora, is there support, how long its been in production, what is their goal and many other hard questions. So whether you're interested in just reading the interview, a BIG fan homebrew/open source or just curious about what Pandora is...I'm sure this will grab your interest:
Please introduce yourself, your role and a little bit of information as to what Pandora is.
I'm Michael (known as EvilDragon in the community). And I guess I have - as everyone else - multiple roles in the Pandora project. I am one of the initiators and do a lot of support and talking to the community. But I also do some things like repairing broken units, soldering the LCD cables, etc. I am also helping out with the software, doing some scripts, working on updates and so on.
So yeah, I do various things here
To those who don't know what the Pandora is:
Basically, it's a small mini gaming computer handheld slightly bigger than the NDS Lite (it's just one cm wider and a bit thicker). It runs using Linux, features gaming controls as well as a keyboard and a hires touchscreen.
What are the teams goal(s) for Pandora?
The basic idea was to create a gaming handheld which is perfectly suited to emulate an Amiga - since we all grew up with it. So we needed perfect gaming controls, mouse support as well as a keyboard and a hires display. And it needed to be powerful enough.
During development, we realized it was much more than just a handheld which can be used for gaming: It was fast enough to easily run a full Linux X Server. Therefore, you basically have full computer desktop in your pocket. You can run FireFox together with built-in WiFi and browse the web - or you can play Quake 3 or emulate Mario64 or classic consoles and computers. Or play various Linux games, like Battle for Wesnoth, FreeCiv, SuperTux, etc. Basically, it has become a mixture of an UMPC combined with a gaming console.
Another primary goal was keeping it completely open: You can download the software for the OS and send us patches, if you want to improve it. Everyone who wants to help out can do so
What kind of support or feedback have you gotten from both gamers/supporters?
Most of them really like what we're doing. We received a lot of eMails from people who received their units already that it really was worth the long wait! Of course there are also some who are angry that the development and production took so long (or still takes so long) - but we're no pros, we are doing everything to speed up the production, but we also need to be very careful - if something is wrong an we produce thousands of broken units, it will cost for us to fix them.
Up until now we have 700 units shipped and there were only some issues and RMAs, so I think that worked out pretty well.
What about companies such as big name publishers? Any support from them in the near future?
Some did contact us, yes. But they need a lot of shipped units - they won't do anything before at least 20,000 are out there. So it will surely take a while until they will publish something - if they ever will
After all, the device is primary based on fans of classic games and homebrew - or Linux fans, who want to have a Linux PC in their pocket.
Speaking of support, what games or softwares will be available when the Pandora is launched?
Besides a standard Linux OS with web browsers, AbiWord and normal desktop tools, there were a few emulators and homebrew games available already. It has changed - since the release of the unit, A LOT of stuff has already been ported - and hopefully more to come.
Like any electronic hardware, there is R&D put into a device and it takes a bit of time. How long did it take for the team to iron out and finalize how Pandora will run and look?
Oh, it really took a long time... I think from the first idea until final production, it has been about 3, 5 years...
What has been the biggest obstacle in producing the Pandora?
That's a hard question, as there were many different obstacles we had to solve... like WiFi not working (just after production started), the bank froze our account at one time since there was about 1M USD coming onto the account within a few days (they thought this was fraud), problems with the nubs, and so on.
Quite a few things happened.... I really can't say which was the biggest one.
The big question is, when is Pandora expected to release and the price it would cost gamers?
The price is 330EUR (incl. VAT) or 277 EUR/$349USD (without VAT). At the moment, we're still working on producing the and delivering the first batch, but preorders for the second batch are already being taken.
The core team: Craig Rothwell, Michael Weston, Michael Mrozek, M. Fatih KILIC
Thank you Michael for taking the time to answer our questions. And a big thank you to the Pandora team for supporting and helping the homebrew scene!

News via http://www.openpandora.org/index.php...emid=2&lang=en
What? No news? Dammit!
Well, the boards (200 AFAIK) are on the way to UK due to arrive next week and will be built then, no more news in that area.
BUT I wanted to make a big thank you post!
Not another of those boring "thank you for waiting"-posts (we are thankful, REALLY thankful, but I think I thanked you for that for quite a few times already... and I think you know we are thankful )
No, I wanted to personally say thankful for all the encouraging eMails, messages and words I (and the whole team) got from you during the last few days.
You might've seen there was some negativity on the boards - and sometimes, I had some harsh answers for them. If anyone feels personally attacked by them, I want to apologize. I was (well, am, to be honest ) really quite stressed.
These are no easy times for us:
Imagine you have thousands of people sitting in your back, waiting for their Pandora - you basically owe them a lot of money. You got a lot of work to do (like working on fixing existing issues, answer questions on the board, doing your normal real-life job for earning your food, try to get various companies on the phone to find out what's happening, etc.). This really is a heavy burden for you.
If you're in that state, every post that does sound a bit negative actually sounds way more negative, demotivates you and puts you in a bad temper... then, if you press the Reply-Button, you will most definately choose the wrong words for your post.
If that happens - please, don't take it personally. We're just humans - and sometimes, we're pretty much worn out, too
However, I was very happy to receive some encouraging words and find some encouraging posts on the board (I really like the "I could sell 10 in an instant if I would have them here" or "I would never part with my Pandora!"-ones - it shows the concept of our device really has worked well, so all that's left is speed up the production).
So, THANKS for your encouraging words! It really makes life easier for us - and motivates us to work on things even more.
I don't want to say that you should not post if your Pandora has any issues.
EVERY device has issues - especially new devices from small companies
Tell us what problems to have to encourage us what things we need to improve and take care in the future.
This will not only help making future units more reliable - it will also help making YOUR unit better. i.e. if any part of your Pandora like your LCD cable or a Nub fails sometimes in the future, the replaced one will be made better based on the feedback we get.
The best thing to help us is to drop an eMail to your distributor what you think is an issue with your unit. There's no need reporting the same issues over and over again at the boards - but it sure helps us finding out what can be improved.
Believe us: We are as eager as you speeding up production and are working together with the company, and seeing that they did 300 in the last two weeks is a good start after the stallment because of the nub issues.
It still is not as fast as we want it to but this is the main priority we're working on, that's something you can be sure about.
Oh - and I'll still do the happiness dance when production is finally going steady, as promised
So thanks for reading... no real news this time, but this really was on my mind and it did good just writing it down.
Let's meet at the boards and keep them a fun and happy place to post

News via http://www.openpandora.org/index.php...emid=2&lang=en
Hardware Production
We were really pleased with the last 100 boards! Only a few failed for different reasons, but the nubs were working fine! So it seems the mechanical testing is a fine solution until the next batch of nubs will be produced with added accuracy.
170 more boards are already on the way to UK, so expect more units to be delivered soon.
Hopefully, now that the nub problem seems to be sold, the production will speed soon! As usual, we're working on getting there!
The next 4000 cases should also be ready soon - all of them have been produced and most of them are already painted. They should just arrive in time when we are passing the first 1000 units mark!
Software updates
Softwarewise, some nice things have happened: With Ginge (which should be ready for release soon), you can play GP2X games (even commercial games like Payback and Wind & Water) on the Pandora! While it still is work in progress, it already has pretty good compatibility. Thanks to notaz for that incredible piece of software work.
Also, Hotfix 4 Beta 1 is out. Thanks to the guys that tried it, I already fixed a few errors and will release a Beta 2 within the next days.
The biggest improvement is probably that HF4 is using IPKs for the update: This is the first major step to properly upgrade the system, via a package manager.
Another test I did worked fine: I installed the very first OS version on my Pandora, changed the config files to use our feeds and upgraded the system using opkg update and opkg upgrade - and 10 minutes later, I had a working up-to-date OS on my system!
Soon you will be able to update your unit by either downloading the latest HotFix and running it or by directly update the Pandora while connected to the internet.
The brave ones among you will also be able to use unstable feeds to get the latest changes to the system a few minutes after they have been committed! Of course, bug reports are welcome.
Help us improve the unit!
So, all in all, while things are not going perfect, we're still moving forward and getting there.
Basically, I could be happy with that - but there is one thing that makes me sad: And that is the current mood on the boards. There are some people who seem to try to bash the unit for whatever reason.
This is really demotivating and won't help anyone get anywhere - since it's no constructive criticism.
Yes, we know there have been some problems with the first produced units like shoulder buttons, nubs, LCD cables. And we are working hard to get them all fixed (and most seem already be fixed).
Yes, we know there have been slowdowns in the production - mainly because we had problems with the nubs (we couldn't magically fix them, this takes some time).
Please don't forget: We are not a big company, we are just some guys trying to achieve something. Something major - and I think we didn't do too bad so far.
We are NOT trying to cover or deny any faults, but are trying to fix and prevent them in the future.
According to most people we talked to who already received the unit: They love it and think it's the best device they ever owned.
So far, we only had about 50 RMAs out of 700 - while the boards currently make it sound as if almost EVERY unit is unusable.
Some people do claim that there are more broken units but the users do not want to ship it back to us since they are waiting for production to speed up.
I can imagine this might be true for some people, but not for all.
Please: Even if you do not want to return your unit right now, let us know if you have any serious issues like a dead nub or a failed LCD cable or anything else.
Why? Well, we're trying to fix all problems and prevent them from happening. But if we DON'T KNOW about these issues, we can't fix them. Telling us what fails will help us to improve the quality and increase the production speed.
Also, of course, if you have a Pandora and like it - spread the word! Show it to friends, colleagues, post on boards. Tell them the story behind it, that it's a device made by a small company, not by Sony, etc.
One thing you can be sure about :
If you encounter any real problems with your unit, we'll fix it for you! AND use the information to improve further produced units!
Let's all work together to improve the mood at the boards again. We all do share something: The love for niche products. Be it for gaming, for hacking, for coding - we all gathered to make the Pandora happen. For some, the Pandora is already reality - and for the rest, this reality is coming closer and closer!
Thanks to all guys that do support us - it's never been easy, but you keep us going!

News via http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php...dpost&p=906375
I've ported SBaGen to the Pandora, the pnd is here: http://www.fragmentedforce.com/pandora/sbagen.pnd
I included the example beats in the PND inside the "examples" directory.
Binaural beats can help you sleep more easily, make it easier to focus, etc.
Wikipedia article on binaural beats: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binaural_beat
It's a bit of a quick hack as it's a CLI app, so I just made a script that prompts for the binaural beat file (.sbg format) and plays it in a terminal window. The first app I've ported to Pandora, and the first PND I've ever made. It should work correctly, but let me know if you have any issues.
Update: I also added a shutdown when done option, and if you want to save even more power you can clock the Pandora to 200mhz, and if you have hotfix 4 close the lid to turn off the screen.
I haven't posted it on the file archive or app store yet, if anyone wants to do it please feel free to do so

No, we don't have our own booth
However, as I was at the GamesCom today (some press appointments for Pandora), I left a Pandora (and a Caanoo) at one booth for you to take a look at if you want:
It's at the "Haus der Computerspiele", that's in Hall 08.1, Booth B050.
One of the best places to visit at the GamesCom anyway - it's an exhibition of console and handheld system, really nice collection.
Both Pandora an Caanoo will be there until the exhibition is over and then go back to my place.
There's no SD Card in there, so no games installed - but if you are eager to see a life on - you're welcome.
Usually, it's behind glass and will probably stay there - but maybe, if there are some calm minutes, you might be able to talk to the guy who owns the booth and he'll allow you to try it.
Enjoy

Newly released for Pandora
Super Mario War is a Super Mario multiplayer game. The goal is to stomp as many other Marios as possible to win the game. It's a tribute to Nintendo and the game Mario War by Samuele Poletto. The game uses artwork and sounds from Nintendo games. We hope that this noncommercial fangame qualifies as fair use work. We just wanted to create this game to show how much we adore Nintendo's characters and games.
