News from the openpandora team
The big boxes full of cases have just been cleared in London and will therefore be transported to Newcastle.
They are ready to be picked up tomorrow there - though I have no idea about Craigs' current timetable and when he wants to pick them up... but I don't think he'll leave them there for a long time.
With the new nub prototypes that should arrive within this week and over 1000 boards already produced, we'll finally get closer and closer to delivery... yeah, I know, we said that for the last two years
But still - knowing that everything except for the nubs does REALLY exist now makes me feel a lot more comfortable.

Newly released for Pandora
This is a clone of the classic "Missile Command" Game, but it has better graphics and music. The gameplay has only been slightly modified.
You have to defend your cities from missiles. You have three rocket launchers: One to the left, one in the middle and one to the right.
You can aim with either the touchscreen or a nub set to mouse mode. However, do not mix both, as moving the nub will mix up your touchscreen.
To fire, you can either use the DPad or AYB:
Left and A = Fire with left base
Up and Y = Fire with middle base
Right and B = Fire with right base

News from the Openpandora Team
More news already!
How many Pandora Boards are out there?
While most of you guys would say "just below 1000", this is not entirely true anymore.
Yeah, there are about 800 - 900 boards in the hands of the users already - but according to a notice we got from Texas today, there are already 1000 more almost finished.
(Almost finished means: They have been populated by the machine and are just missing the manually placed parts like volume wheel, etc.)
So you could say: The boards doubled. It looks like October 18th is a realistic date for them to finish after all!
Cases finished, boards on a good way - what's left is the nubs.
To squeeze the most out of them, they are also trying a way more sturdy, high-grade automotive silicone material.
However, that material needed to be ordered - and won't be there until sometime next week (we don't know for sure when yet, but we're gonna ask).
So on the downside, it still takes a bit longer - but on the other side, it means that the quality of the nubs should be top-notch!
You guys waited so long, you don't deserve nubs that fail after a few weeks!
And be honest: Do you rather want to wait a bit longer and get proper nubs or get your unit NOW the flakey ones? (be careful what you reply, as we could ship one with the old ones to you - but on your own risk)
Of course, we'll make sure to have everything prepared when the nubs are finished to get the Pandoras as fast as possible out to you.
If everything is prepared, we can assemble 200 units per day.
October 17th is my birthday - and my wish is: All boards finished and non-failing, great-working nubs at least ready for mass production.

News from the Openpandora Team
That's the weight of 2000 cases that are packaged up and leaving for UK tomorrow via air.
What - why tomorrow? They were packaged up and finished last week, weren't they?
Yeah... but guess what: There was the Moon Festival - and naturally, all exporters wanted to get THEIR stuff on the plane, and that tripled the shipping costs.
We won't get any more boards before the new nubs have been mass-produced anyways, so we decided to NOT pay a fortune to ship them.
Wait - no more boards until the new nubs are there?
Right. The tested nubs worked better than the ones before, but they still break more easily than the final ones. Using those slows everything down, as we need to desolder broken ones from otherwise working boards, and quite a few might fail after a few weeks, too, which would've lead to a lot of RMA costs and bad reputation.
The last testing prototype of the nubs lasted 7 times longer already in the stress test, the new one is already being tested right now. We aim for at least 500K cycles (last one had 300K, the first ones under 100K). Hopefully we get more good results of the nubs until the end of the week (well, testing takes some time and can't be sped up )
Hey - does that mean: If I have I Pandora, I need to ship it back to get the nub replaced?
No. While the amount of breaking nubs is higher than it should be, it doesn't mean your nubs will break for sure. As long as they work fine, there's no need to replace them.
Okay... so what's currently happening and what's the plan?
Once the cases arrive in UK, Craig and team are preparing the cases so that we only need to pop-in the boards when they arrive while I keep soldering the LCD-Cables.
I'm pretty fast with that already and can solder 100 in two hours. If I solder 10 hours a day, it's 2 1/2 days for the rest of the cables (got about 1500 finished so far).
The company in Texas keeps producing and testing boards without nubs. Hopefully they stick to their promise that they finish them all until October 18th - but until now, they still claim it.
When the nubs arrive, they will be soldered onto the boards and the boards will go to UK ASAP to be put together into final units.
Some other news, regarding software
I started to work on Hotfix 5. I already fixed a few bugs and added some features and are now extensively working on the Tweak settings where you can set the OPP level, default clock, maximum overclock, etc.
I also plan on including a theme selector for XFCE4 (or better: GTK+) which allows people to install themes with bigger scrollbars, etc. more easily.
I also started to rebase our current OS on the latest OE Testing tree... which means: The whole system will be updated to a newer version.
I have no idea yet how this will workout, but it's something I want to try. DJWillis and notaz are helping me there, so some bugs like Midori rendering problems or the non-working detailed view in Thunar will most likely be fixed then.
TI has also updated the 3D drivers, though I don't know how fast we can include them, but we'll work on that, too.
But much more interesting: If you check this thread on GP32x.com, you can see that TI actually released a demo version of the Adobe FlashPlayer for the Cortex A8. And yes, it runs on the Pandora!
It's still slow, but it's just a first demo release, TI will most likely improve it. As Flash is running way faster on the N900 (which uses the same CPU), we know there's still a lot of potential.
Well, that's it so far.
Any question / feedback / etc. welcome as usual

With thanks to Notaz, we now have PSFreedom working on the Pandora. For those that have been on Mars, PSFreedom is the gateway to homebrew on the holy grail of closed systems - the PS3. Happy days.

I haven't tried it myself yet, but these guys have:
You can use the psfreedom-enable and psfreedom-disable sh files from the nokia package: http://www.ps3-hacks.com/file/85
It pretty much just inserts the psfreedom.ko (insmod psfreedom.ko) I think. I didn't really look into, but it works.
Good luck.

Woo! It seems to work!
Those sh files wouldn't work for me, so I tried just and it worked.
[s]Now I'm just trying to figure out/remember where to put the pkg files...[/s]
I remembered it's the root of a separate usb storage device.
Many Thanks!
Note: The downloads and links in this post are all perfectly legal. I think we all know what the board rules are... keep it clean, keep it homebrew.

My friend EQ has taken my psx4all dynarec port source, and after that he has added Opengl ES 1.1 support, and fixed few bugs.
He is using N95, which has hardware Opengl ES 1.1 support. I think that itβs running quite well already. Very good job EQ!

News from Evil Dragon
Forgive me for not posting much during the last days - it doesn't mean we're trying to hide something, it just means I'm busy with real life... or soldering LCD cables, as I did during the last days.
You might've seen from Fatih's Tweet yesterday, that painting still was not finished and therefore we had to change the shipping date.
This time, there's not really anyone to be blamed - as there was a power loss in China in their area for a couple of days - yeah, something that's hard to imagine in most places where we all live.
So they lost a few productive days...
They tried to speed up the painting to finish in time - but as some samples showed, not a good idea:
As soon as I get more infos from Fatih when the last piece of case has painted, I'll let you know.
We're currently discussing about sending more cases via air and less via ship to have them all here when the boards are finished.
Regarding board production and nub testing, there's nothing new yet, as we usually get a status update each Friday. So tomorrow we will probably have more infos.
However, I got some pictures from the board company, showing their facility and machines. Basically the birthplace of the Pandora Boards!
When they find some time, they will also take some pictures of the actual Pandora production, this will be neat
Last but not least, we've also been working on some new stuff.
Board Rev6a is finished and prototypes are in production. That revision doesn't add new things for the customer, it just has been designed to make production faster (we don't need to scratch up the boards to connect shielding for CE anymore and similar things) and most important: It has some testing points added near the WiFi chip that makes debugging of the driver more easy. That might help fixing the last WiFi problems out there.
So basically, that revision helps us speed up everything, make CE conformity easier and helps us debugging.
Also, the new revision of LCD cables will be produced shortly.
Mainly the same here: The speaker wires moved outside of the connector area, the cable is now completely shielded - and that means we don't have to use tons of copper tapes ourselves anymore to shield it manually. This should also help speed up production in the future and making it more robust.
We're still moving forward, and I guess that is the most important thing for this project. More news as soon as I have them
