Well, it looks like the Xbox 360 dashboard isn't the only thing getting an overhaul this fall -- Microsoft's Major Nelson has just announced that Xbox.com will be getting a "massive facelift" tomorrow. The changes are more than just visual, however, and include a few new features that more tightly integrate the site with the Xbox 360 and Windows Phone 7. That includes a new browser-based avatar editor and, most interestingly, some web games that you'll be able to play with your Xbox Live friends on the web or on Windows Phone 7 -- no word if they'll earn you achievements. Otherwise, you can expect a streamlined view of messages, friend and game requests, some new family reports that will let you see how your family is using Xbox Live, and some improved browsing and searching options for the Marketplace. It's still not clear exactly when it'll go live, but the site will be down for a short period starting at 5:00AM ET tomorrow to prepare for the changes

October 19th, 2010, 14:58 Posted By: wraggster
An unusually combative appearance by Apple CEO Steve Jobs appeared at a recent earnings call making series of claims including 7-inch tablets being 'DOA'.
The iPhone-maker announced record revenue surpassing $20 billion of revenue with the iPad alone contributing $5 billion to Apple coffers. However it was widely expected that the iPad would sell 5 million units and the actual sales fell short of the mark on 4.19 million.
"We are blown away to report over $20 billion in revenue and over $4 billion in after-tax earnings-both all-time records for Apple," said Apple boss Steve Jobs in a statement.
"iPhone sales of 14.1 million were up 91 per cent year-over-year, handily beating the 12.1 million phones RIM sold in their most recent quarter. We still have a few surprises left for the remainder of this calendar year."
Unsurprisingly the iPhone continued to be the star of the show with $8.82 billion of sales, up 92 per cent on the previous year. Next the company made $3.2 billion from notebooks but this was up just 10 per cent while the iPad came in third making $2.79 in a new addition to the Apple product range.
The desktop business, however, experienced a strong 54 per cent growth to $1.7 billion but it's still dwarfed by the firm's notebook business in total size. The iPod and iTunes music sales contributed $1.48 and $1.24 billion each, meaning that the iPod and music sales alone is worth more than Mac sales.
Most surprisingly in the announcement of strong results was the appearance of Steve Jobs. Continuing the combative tone the company has adopted in public statements following the iPhone 4 'Antennagate', Jobs dished out criticism to rivals including calling Goggle 'disingenuous' over claims of the 'open' nature of the Android OS.
In what Engadget called "the most insane earnings call we've ever been on," Jobs read from an aggressively worded statement. Jobs cast doubt on Android sales, despite several market analyst firms releasing detailed reports, he also attacked Android's 'fragmentation', long considered to be the Achilles' heel of Goggle's iOS challenger.
"Goggle wants to characterize Android as open, and iOS and the iPhone as closed. We think this is disingenuous. Unlike Windows, which has the same interface on every machine, Android is very fragmented. Compare this with iPhone, where every interface is the same."
"We think this open versus closed argument is a smokescreen that hides the real question: What's better for users, fragmented versus integrated?" asked Jobs. "We believed integrated will trump fragmented every time."
The sheer number of remarkable claims Jobs made at the earnings call looks set to be poured over by analysts and media over the coming days but it left one thing in no doubt, Apple views Android as a serious threat worth wheeling out the biggest gun the firm has to tell the market why the firm's iPhone is top dog among smartphones.

News via http://boards.openpandora.org/index....ry-2010-10-18/
Okay, the last nubs seemed to be way better than the ones before. We got about 400K cycles (instead of the less than 100K we had on the initial ones) - and the jumping / tolerance issue should also be fixed.
This means: Mass production of the nubs is now going to start again!
According to the Nubs company, it should take about 1 week until mass production is setup and then a few thousand nubs should only take a few days.
This means that sometimes between middle and end next week, the nubs could already arrive in Texas to be soldered at the boards.
Regarding the boards, we haven't heard yet how many really are finished (their own set deadline is today, so let's hope they managed to do that!), but as soon as I know more, I'm gonna inform you.
One step closer to finally finishing Batch 1...

After Link's victory over Ganon (in "A Link to the Past"), no one knows what Link’s wish to the Triforce was. But this wish reunified the Light World and the Dark World and brought the 7 wise men’s descendants back to life. Peace was back in Hyrule. But unfortunately, this wish also ressurected Ganon and his henchmen. He was preparing his revenge, but he couldn’t do anything without the Triforce. One night, a familiar voice speaks to Link in his sleep…

Newly released for Pandora
After the events that occured in Termina and the victory of the hero on his evil alter-ego, Zelda and Link knew that, from the bottom of hell, Ganon the immortal drawed his power from his wish to the Triforce, and rounded up his army with a view to invade Hyrule. Until the day when, after months spent watching out for an attack, an event came up and put an end to this endless waiting...

News via http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php...dpost&p=921852
I precompiled and uploaded xbindkeys as tarball here:
http://userpages.uni-koblenz.de/~bbr...rebuild.tar.gz
tarball-size: 267012 bytes
It allows you to configure shortkeys, which - when pressed - start applications. XFCE offers this too (start->Settings->Keyboard->Application Shortcuts), but because i am used to xbindkeys, because you can use it also if you choose to switch to a different X-desktop-environment and because i had some strange problems with the configuration of shortkeys in xfce, i prefer to use xbindkeys.
The tarball includes the source-code for completeness. But you just need to copy the .xbindkeys-binary (only 108846 bytes) to some location you prefer (i created ~/bin/ for that and added it to my PATH) and assign it to the programs that are automatically started on session-launch. After that you have to create/edit a file in your home-directory named ".xbindkeysrc". Here is the example-config.
This might be a little confusing but in the end it's easy. For example i defined 4 shortkeys so far:
If you want to find out a name of a key, then i can recommend to use "xev". It's in the repository and only 16800 bytes large. Just run it from a terminal-window and all keypresses/-releases you execute after that are shown.
EDIT: The also included command "xbindkeys_show" won't work as it depends on the command "wish". I didn't fix this, because i see no real (or important) use for "xbindkeys_show".

More from the Openpandora Team
Well, as said, you can find small up-to-date news snippets in the Official News Area of the Official Boards, however, a lot has happened, so it's time for a little summary on the official site as well.
So far, about 900 units are in the hands of he users. However, there's no need to be afraid if you have been told you're number 450 - 500 in the queue and haven't gotten anything yet. First, that queue number is from Craig's preorders. A fourth of the total units goes to Germany, so you need to substract about 220 units from the 900. Then there were some used for RMAs (about 100, because of the nubs) and about 100 - 150 were one-nubbers where people could skip the queue. So NO, you've not been forgotten, don't worry.
Okay, so where are we right now?
The Cases
All cases needed for the first batch + additional 1000 ones have been produced and painted already.
2000 of those cases did already arrive in UK and are now currently being put together so that only the boards need to be put in.
The rest of the cases (3000) will arrive via ship (that's way cheaper... those 2000 cases did cost 5000 USD shipping costs, whooopeeee!)
The Boards
According to a statement of the owner of the production company from last week, several thousand boards are finished... sounds like a bit of exaggeration, but there should be about 1500 - 2000 finished boards lying in Texas.
Those boards are only missing the nubs, since they've been the biggest problem we had recently.
The Nubs
The nubs were the biggest issue we had. Too many failed right from the start or after a few weeks.
That's why we really had the company redo them and do proper stresstesting - and yes, that's what they're currently doing, and they're fast!
They already got through three new revisions with new prototypes which all have seen improvements!
The goal is that all tested prototype nubs have to survive at least 500K cycles (one cycle is a movement from the middle to max. up, max down and back to the middle). The ones we had didn't even survive 100K cycles, the latest one have survived 300K cycles. The next ones should arrive any day now.
The nubs are the only showstopper we have right now - but once they're finished, production will resume.
The Conclusion
Well, boards are there, cases are there, that's a good thing. Only thing missing are the nubs, but they will follow.
I am currently busy soldering LCD cables. As the boards are being produced and tested in Texas already, all that needs to be done is put the nubs on them when they're finished. At the same time, Craig prepares the 2000 cases: The Pandora can already be fully assembled without the boards. This saves A LOT of time later, as all that'll left to do then is stick in the boards, test and flash.

Newly released for Pandora
GNOME Games is a collection of sixteen small "five-minute" games in a variety of styles and genres.
Included :
- Aisleriot: A compilation of over eighty different solitaire card games. Everything from favorites like Freecell and Klondike through to the hopelessly pointless Clock Patience
- Mahjongg: A tile-based solitaire game with an oriental flavor. Remove tiles in matching pairs to dismantle elaborately designed stacks.
- Mines: The popular logic puzzle minesweeper. Find mines on a grid using hints from squares you have already cleared.
- Nibbles: Pilot a worm around a maze trying to collect diamonds and at the same time avoiding the walls and yourself. With each diamond your worm grows longer and navigation becomes more and more difficult. Playable by up to four people.
- Five or more: Move balls around the grid and try and form lines. Once you form five in a row, the line disappears. Unfortunately more balls keep dropping in.
- Robots: The classic game where you have to avoid a hoard of robots who are trying to kill you. Each step you take brings them closer toward you. Fortunately they aren't very smart and you also have a helpful teleportation gadget.
- Gnometris: The Russian game of falling geometric shapes. Need I say more ?
- Tali: Sort of poker with dice and less money. An ancient Roman game, this variant is similar to Yahtzee ®.
- Iagno: The GNOME version of Reversi. The goal is to control the most disks on the board.
- Tetravex: A puzzle game where you have to match a grid of tiles together. The skill level ranges from the simple two by two up to the seriously mind-bending six by six grid.
- Klotski: A series of sliding block puzzles. Try and solve them in the least number of moves.

Newly released for Pandora
Credit to Sience (http://boards.dingoonity.org/dingux-...%29-v20100330/) for most of the work
Running pretty well; for now there is now ASM CPU cores in place, so try overclocking to keep speed up where needed. This will be remedied soon.
Should run all games at full speed pretty easily.
Press SPACE to bring up the menu. (The menu lets you change scaling mode, display FPS, quit, and more to come.)
Build 004
---------
Switched to Picklelauncher as GUI.
Known bugs: Crashes when trying to save a state.
SRAM works fine though.
Build 003
---------
- better audio
- supports 7z archived roms
- stores SRAM to your appdata on SD instead of home directory in NAND
